Poor Dick and Sally. It's cold and wet and they're stuck in the house with nothing to do . . . until a giant cat in a hat shows up, transforming the dull day into a madcap adventure and almost wrecking the place in the process! Written by Dr. Seuss in 1957 in response to the concern that "pallid primers [with] abnormally courteous, unnaturally clean boys and girls' were leading to growing illiteracy among children, The Cat in the Hat (the first Random House Beginner Book) changed the way our children learn how to read.
Dr. Seuss absolutely changed the way children learned to read. Dr. Seuss is my 6 year old daughter favorite author. She has 6 of his books, to include Cat In The Hat, that she has to read nightly. Reading his books encouraged her to continue to read. The words are repetition and the pictures are illustrated perfectly. This was a good choice.
ReplyDeleteMy Favorites from the Dr Seuess series are: Green Eggs and Ham and The Lorax. I love Green Eggs and Ham for the playfullness of the language. The Lorax, also available in Spanish as El Lorax, is a wonderful environmental book.
